Day 8 & 9 in the USA

01 Mei 2014 | Verenigde Staten, Reading
Yesterday, Tuesday the 29th of April, Karen and I woke up early to go to a breakfast of United Way. United Way is an organisation, which helps people in the community, for example by helping people with approving their reading skills. The breakfast was organised for the top 100 companies/organisations who give money to finance all the projects they are doing. You can either chose for giving the money to a specific project, like the reading project, or you can chose to give it in general, so that they can look for which project they can use the money the best. This breakfast was at Albright College, which we will visit this Friday. It looked really nice with all the different buildings, a huge sport arena, etc. So I'm looking forward to go there. After the breakfast, we went back to the County. We went to a meeting of one of the departments of the County, I think the departments were Ageing and MH/DD, but I'm not sure. It was really interesting, because it showed that though it are different departments, they actually do have something in common, so they could use the same system for example. Later that morning, there was a meeting with someone from the film crew, security, people from the Court, etc. Because the Courthouse got an award, so that means that they would come to film it. During that meeting, we also went to the Courthouse, which is attached to the building where Karen works, to see the different courtrooms, law library, the Attorney's lounge, etc. So that the woman could see what has to be filmed and what does not have to be filmed. It took a while, but I had the opportunity to look at the Courthouse really well! The Courtrooms here all are different and beautiful in its own way. I think that they are much prettier than in Holland!
Today, the 30th of April, we again had to wake up early because the film crew would arrive early this morning. We spend the whole day with them, so again we could see the whole Courthouse with all the beautiful, old architecture, etc. I really liked to see it all, because I would like to study law and so this was a real good opportunity to see the differences between the courtrooms in Holland and the ones in the US. I even was the assistent of the film crew for a couple of times as you can see on one of the attached pictures. They also had to film the outside of the building, however the weather was really bad today, so they could not film outside. It rained all day and it will not stop until tomorrow morning I believe. There was/is even a chance of floods! Though, we went up the roof of the building to see the view and to make sure that it is possible to film there on another day.
I also told you before that I went to a homicide trial, which lasted for three days. I was there on Monday from 9 o'clock till noon and today the verdict was spoken out. It was a coincidence that we were on the fifth floor, while that was said, so I went into the courtroom again to listen to the verdict. So I saw the beginning and the end of the trial, which was really interesting!!
After a busy day at Karen's work, we went to a shop and to the pizzeria to get pizza for dinner, which was really tasty! I again experienced a lot in two days, which was really exciting!!

Mama:
We spreken elkaar nadat je in New York bent geweest! Liefs papa en mama. -
